Amelia Menzies
Counselling and Wellbeing Therapist
Individual
Counselling
I offer both short and long term counselling to adults and young people aged 15 and over. I can offer individual therapy including in-person, video, telephone and online therapy.
Creative
Therapy
Talking therapies can sometimes feel challenging.
In creative therapy, a softer approach is taken, by using art and imagination to provide a new means of communication.
Ecotherapy
Walk & Talk
Research shows that Ecotherapy can improve mental and physical wellbeing. I offer Walk and Talk Therapy which takes therapy outside.
Canine Assisted
Therapy
Interacting with animals has many health benefits. My gentle, quiet companion dog Walter can sometimes join therapy sessions to help reduce stress and anxiety.
My Approach
The heart of my practice is compassionate, holistic care that is collaborative, integrative, and person-centred.
Using a person-centred approach means that I put you at the centre of the counselling process. I offer a safe, non-judgemental, confidential place where you can explore what's happening in your life, any blocks or difficulties you are having.
I work with lots of different people covering issues ranging from stress, anxiety, relationship difficulties, personal difficulties and life changes, self esteem and confidence, anger, work-related problems and bereavement. Although there are many other areas in which I can help.
About me
I have a long background in mental health, having trained as a psychiatric nurse and later working in the third sector as a youth worker. Today I work with a Borders based perinatal mental health charity supporting parents through the ups and downs of pregnancy and the early years with their babies. I hold a BACP approved Diploma in counselling and am studying a BSc in psychology with counselling. I'm also a qualified and FEDANT registered trauma informed Birth Doula. My passion is supporting individuals through life's challenges, and I regularly participate in clinical supervision, training, and continuing professional development. I am a registered member of the BACP, and adhere to its code of ethics.
